Back again

Wow, It's been awhile.

Been working on three projects, Buddy, What's in a name and The shaft.  Saltboy just told me no on Buddy, but they really enjoyed it.  The Shaft has been sent to an anthology called Holy Horrors, religous horror. we'll see what they think, and I'm still polishing "what's in a name." Not real sure what I'm going to do with that one yet.

Thanks for dropping by, keep reading.

Back in the game.
Sorry I've been gone so long.
The bootcamp in Baltimore was last weekend, I'm still trying to figure exactly what happened. I've taken my notes and attacked "The Shaft." Damn, I thought it was a good piece, but looking at it after I got back..... I cut a big chunk out of it, fixed a bunch of errors that I couldn't see before and it went off to Analog yesterday. I've dusted off my boots and am tackling a rewrite of "Do us part, Amen." but it looks like I'm going to have to re-name the piece here soon.
I'll try to be back more often, it's been too long.

Another of Eric's original "Broken Sky" work in pencil. This is the one that Paul Campbell used for the blue illustration in the earlier entry.

" To do battle against the Blood-Drinkers for just one day takes more than the stout heart of a tribesman. Much more. I will watch over you and see to you." O'shako felt the soft light on his body and said a prayer of thanks to the Grandfather Moon.

If you look to the post below, You'll see a pencil sketch of Julie Dillard from "Do us Part, Amen" that was done by Eric Ewing in Molly's one night. I asked Eric to take the sketch and make a full colour illustration from it, this is what he brought me back.
DAMN.

It’s a whole world in there, David thought to himself, miles of empty wasteland. Perfect for hiding and waiting.
The scene was daylight, storm clouds gathered in the distant sky.
Julie stared out from the foreground, looking back over her shoulder.

Oh man, it's been awhile!
Do Us Part, Amen has been submitted to Blindside Publishing in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for publication.
Paul Campbell has returned an excellent job of colouring Eric's Broken Sky illustrations, and I'm slowly digging my way through The Testament of Laura Stephens.
Bear with my, I'll be back soon.
Thanks,
Brian

P.S., Oh, and dig this.

Now Playing: New Artwork
I was able to get Houston based artist Eric Ewing to make some early sketches of the painting in "Do Us Part, Amen" for me. If you remember, Mr. Ewing is the artist that did the character sketches for "Broken Sky" for me last year. This is simple pencil sketch done in Molly's on Kuykendahl over several bottles of Heineken. Enjoy!

I submitted the The Shaft to Dark Recesses press this evening. It's longer than the requested 5,000 words, but they say they'll accept longer pieces if really good, I believe it is. We'll see what happens.

I recieved this in my inbox today

Dear Brian,

Many thanks for sending your story "The Shaft" to Apex Digest. I'm sorry, but I'm unable to accept it. All three of the Apex editors read your story and liked it, but we already have religious-themed stories lined up for the next couple of issues.

Again, many thanks, and please do consider us again in the future; we'd love to read more. Best of luck to you.

Corner Office
Talk about being caught with your pants down.
I submitted Corner Office to Raggededge, Debbie sent me an e-mail tonight saying it should be on-site over the weekend. Glad you liked it, Thanks a lot for the support!
BUT...
I looked over the final text and found one little tiny mistake. The part about the wager being for a corner office had been deleted from the final text I submitted, so.....there's no reason in this world to name it that.
But you know what, a "W" is a "W" and an "L" is an "L".
